Can you draw a landscape blindfolded or with your eyes closed? Just try once. It is a great mind-bending challenge, entertaining and interesting too. This is funny and it takes just a couple of minutes to draw a picture when given as an activity in the book club.
But I ask you to dive deeper into this activity and contemplate it once you finish with your drawing. You will see that what you have imagined is extremely different from the reality. The way you would have imagined the landscape at its best has not even touched the 40% of it on paper.

And this is what you can’t even imagine of this girl Helen Keller, a deaf and blind child. She has drawn such pictures in her mind, has learnt the language through figures and become a remarkable American author and an educator. Her education and training represent an extraordinary accomplishment with these disabilities. The Story of My Life Helen Keller was the book of the December month of Words to Wisdom Book and Lifestyle Club.
This book is an autobiography of Helen Keller from which we came to know that when Helen was 19 months old she suffered from a severe disease which left her to be blind and deaf. Her teacher Miss Anne Sullivan came into her life and proved to turn over a new leaf for her. She made her learn language through manual alphabets that is finger imitation and the first word she learned to speak was water.
Miss Anne Sullivan played a major role in her life. She does not confine any particular subject or study to Helen. She taught me all the things that she knows. Slowly and gradually Helen developed the ability to learn many things. She has her concept of abstract ideas ie. love, compassion, sympathy, peace, joy and much more. Words to Wisdom Book and Lifestyle Club even watched the movie “The Miracle Worker” which is based on the Helen Keller story.
A k Singh, the representative of the group said that people born in such conditions or got into these conditions are not disabled they are just differently abled. They learn things differently that's it. They have the same ability as a normal human being.
Somya, the fellow member said that as we are discussing a story of a girl who has faced whatever comes to her life with optimism. While discussing we appreciate and even think that our problems are so small in front of these events. But after a few moments, we will again forget it because we are not sensitive towards every human being. We have to value our sensitivity and others too.
And with this life lesson, we ended the session on a lighter note. I hope you will try to draw a landscape with your eyes closed. Do share your picture or tag us when you finish drawing your picture.
Happy Reading 🙂
One of the most innovative and exciting activity undertaken during this wonderful session. Life is beautiful in it's every form. Everyone is special irrespective of physical appearance. Thankyou host for this thoughtful activity.
